Seven Hills Running Club
Darren Grant, President
Darren Grant ran his first road race in 1979, before joining his high school cross country team, and has been running continuously ever since. From 1988 to 1990, he served as a high school cross country and track coach in New Orleans, and from 1992 to 1994 directed races and a series of summer track meets for the Gulf Winds Track Club of Tallahassee, Florida. For the past three years, he has helped direct monthly club runs for the Seven Hills Running Club. He lives in the Forest Hills Sub-division with his wife, Marsie, and two children.
Steve Bickford, Vice President
I was almost 50 years old, cholesterol was too high, blood pressure too high, weight too high, I had to make some life changes. The last time I ran was in 1978 during high school football practice. I ran the 3.5 mile fun run with the Seven Hills Running Club on March 28, 2010 and decided that I could do it. I joined the club and decided to honor God in my body and in my spirit like the scripture says in 1 Corinthian 6:20. From now on, I am going to run as long as He lets me. My goal is to be the best me that I can.
Donna Fabian, Secretary
I started running in junior high and have always loved participating in sports. I took a break from running and training while in college but always stayed active by participating in intramural sports. I graduated from SHSU in 1998 and began my teaching career. I have taught various grades and did some coaching at the junior high and high school levels. I ran my first 5K in October 2010. Since then I was hooked again. I have run numerous 5K’s throughout the state and a few 10K’s. I look forward to completing my first half marathon and marathon in the future. My husband, Chuck, and I reside in Waterwood with our two fantastic boys. We all love participating in Seven Hills Running Club activities.
Jan Parks, Registrar
I ran on the track team in high school and continued to run on my own in college. Due to a back injury, I gave up on running for about 15 years. Then, I started walking and adding very short runs. My back didn’t hurt, so I kept running. Now, I have run 6 marathons, four 50K's and a 50 miler. It’s great to be running again!
Ken Johnson, Treasurer
Ken co-founded the club in 1985 and served numerous terms as President and Vice President. He began running in 1961 and racing in 1983. Ken has completed over 650 races, to include 96 marathons and ultra-marathons. His book, How to Put on a Road Race, has sold in all 50 states and in many foreign countries. He currently writes a bi-monthly column on running in the Huntsville Item.
